JAK2-STAT Pathway

Meaning

The JAK2-STAT Pathway, an acronym for Janus Kinase 2 and Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription, is a principal intracellular signaling cascade activated by numerous hormones and cytokines. This pathway provides a direct, rapid route for an extracellular signal to traverse the cell membrane and regulate gene transcription within the nucleus. It is a fundamental mechanism in endocrinology, mediating the biological effects of key pituitary hormones, notably prolactin and growth hormone.
