Isometrics

Meaning

Isometrics are a form of strength training exercise where the muscle generates force against an immovable object or an opposing muscle group without any change in the length of the muscle or the angle of the joint. This type of contraction is static, engaging muscle fibers and recruiting motor units to maintain a fixed position under tension. Incorporating isometrics can be a targeted method for enhancing specific joint stability and increasing local muscle endurance.
