Ischemic Stroke

Meaning

An ischemic stroke is a critical cerebrovascular event characterized by the sudden, abrupt interruption of blood flow to a specific region of the brain, resulting in rapid cellular oxygen and nutrient deprivation, ultimately leading to neurological tissue damage and functional deficit. This event, which constitutes the majority of all strokes, is typically caused by a thrombotic or embolic occlusion of a cerebral artery. Hormonal factors, particularly those related to estrogen and coagulation, can significantly modulate an individual’s susceptibility to this devastating condition.
