Investigational New Drugs

Meaning

Investigational New Drugs (INDs) are pharmaceutical or biological products that have not yet received official approval from a regulatory body, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, for commercial marketing or general public use. The term refers to a drug candidate that is actively being studied in human clinical trials to determine its safety, efficacy, optimal dosage, and pharmacokinetic profile. The IND status is a critical, formal step in the rigorous drug development pipeline.
