Intramuscular Injection

Meaning

Intramuscular Injection is a standard parenteral route of drug administration where the therapeutic compound is delivered directly into the deep, highly vascularized tissue of a skeletal muscle. This technique is clinically employed for medications that require rapid systemic absorption, for the administration of larger volumes of fluid, or for substances that would cause unacceptable irritation if delivered via the subcutaneous route. It is a routine and reliable method for administering various hormonal therapies and certain peptide agents.
