This mode operates exclusively within the cytoplasm or nucleus of the same cell, distinct from external communication pathways. Unlike autocrine or endocrine signaling, intracrine hormones never exit. Steroid hormones are prime examples, involving their intracellular synthesis and subsequent binding to internal receptors.

Understanding intracrine signaling is clinically vital for comprehending cellular growth and metabolism.
