Intra-Testicular Testosterone

Meaning

Intra-Testicular Testosterone (ITT) refers to the extremely high concentration of the androgen hormone testosterone that is specifically maintained within the seminiferous tubules and interstitial fluid of the testes. This localized, supraphysiological concentration, which is significantly higher than circulating plasma levels, is absolutely essential for the process of spermatogenesis, or sperm production. The maintenance of ITT is a fundamental requirement for male fertility and is governed by the delicate balance of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Clinical interventions must be carefully considered to preserve this critical localized hormonal environment.
