Intestinal Permeability Pathology

Meaning

Intestinal Permeability Pathology describes the compromised integrity of the gastrointestinal epithelial barrier, often referred to clinically as “leaky gut,” which permits the unregulated passage of luminal contents, such as bacterial endotoxins and undigested food particles, into the submucosa and systemic circulation. This pathological state triggers chronic immune activation and systemic inflammation, significantly impacting endocrine and metabolic health. It represents a critical failure of the body’s largest barrier.
