Interstitial Fluid Ph

Meaning

Interstitial Fluid pH refers to the measure of hydrogen ion concentration, or acidity, within the interstitial fluid, which is the thin layer of fluid bathing the cells of the body’s tissues. Maintaining this pH within a very narrow, slightly alkaline range is crucial for optimal cellular function, enzyme activity, and efficient exchange of nutrients and waste products between blood and cells. Deviations from this homeostatic range, such as acidosis, can severely impair metabolic processes and hormonal signaling.
