Interstate MOU

Meaning

Interstate MOU, or Interstate Memorandum of Understanding, refers to a formal, cooperative agreement established between state boards of pharmacy, or other designated regulatory bodies, that explicitly outlines the conditions under which a compounding pharmacy registered in one state may legally dispense or ship compounded medications to patients residing in another state. This document is a critical component of regulatory compliance for compounding pharmacies, particularly for Outsourcing Facilities (503b), that operate on a national or multi-state scale. The MOU establishes a cooperative framework for sharing essential information, efficiently investigating complaints, and ensuring that pharmacies comply with the compounding standards of both the originating and receiving states, thereby safeguarding public health across jurisdictional boundaries.
