Internal Clocks

Meaning

Internal Clocks, scientifically designated as the circadian rhythm system, are the intrinsic biological oscillators that govern the approximately 24-hour cycle of nearly all physiological processes, including the pulsatile secretion of hormones, core body temperature regulation, and the sleep-wake cycle. The master clock resides in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus, synchronizing peripheral clocks located in metabolic tissues like the liver and adrenal glands. Maintaining this synchronization is paramount for optimal metabolic and endocrine health.
