Interfacial Denaturation

Meaning

Interfacial Denaturation is a form of physical instability in pharmaceutical protein and peptide formulations, such as injectable hormones, where the protein structure unfolds upon contact with a physical boundary or interface. This critical process occurs primarily at the air-water surface, or liquid-solid boundaries like the container wall or an injection needle surface. It compromises the drug’s efficacy and safety by exposing hydrophobic protein domains.
