Integrin-Linked Kinase

Meaning

Integrin-Linked Kinase, or ILK, refers to a critical serine/threonine protein kinase operating within cells. This enzyme functions as a pivotal intracellular signaling molecule, serving as a direct link between integrin receptors on the cell surface and the cell’s internal cytoskeleton. Its primary role involves transducing extracellular matrix signals into the cell, thereby influencing fundamental cellular processes such as adhesion, migration, proliferation, and survival.
