Insuline Resistance

Meaning

Insulin Resistance is a critical metabolic condition where the body’s target cells, particularly those located in muscle, fat, and liver tissue, exhibit a diminished biological response to the normal actions of the hormone insulin. This reduced cellular sensitivity prevents glucose from being efficiently transported from the bloodstream into the cells for energy, necessitating the pancreatic beta cells to secrete progressively increasing amounts of insulin. It represents a fundamental breakdown in glucose homeostasis and is a primary driver of pre-diabetes and cardiometabolic syndrome.
