Insulin Signaling Impairment

Meaning

Insulin Signaling Impairment, commonly known as insulin resistance, is a pathological state where target cells, primarily in muscle, liver, and adipose tissue, exhibit a diminished biological response to the binding of insulin. Despite adequate or even high levels of circulating insulin, the cells fail to effectively execute insulin’s commands, such as facilitating glucose uptake and suppressing hepatic glucose production. This impairment is a core metabolic defect underlying Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and numerous hormonal imbalances, indicating a breakdown in cellular communication.
