Insulin Resistance Pathology

Meaning

Insulin resistance pathology is the clinical condition characterized by the diminished responsiveness of target tissues, such as muscle, fat, and liver cells, to the signaling action of the hormone insulin. This systemic cellular insensitivity necessitates the pancreas to secrete progressively higher levels of insulin to maintain euglycemia, eventually leading to hyperinsulinemia and a cascade of metabolic dysfunctions. It is a foundational pathology underlying Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and visceral fat accumulation.
