Insulin Resistance Biomarkers

Meaning

Insulin resistance biomarkers are measurable biological indicators in blood or tissue that quantitatively reflect the diminished responsiveness of peripheral tissues, such as muscle, fat, and liver, to the action of insulin. These markers are essential clinical tools for the early identification and stratification of metabolic risk, even before overt hyperglycemia or type 2 diabetes develops. Examples include elevated fasting insulin, HOMA-IR scores, and specific adipokines.
