Insulin Resistance and Hypogonadism

Meaning

Insulin Resistance and Hypogonadism describes a frequent and complex bidirectional pathophysiological relationship where the body’s diminished response to insulin is often observed concurrently with a deficiency in gonadal hormone production. Insulin resistance, a hallmark of metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes, impairs the ability of cells to uptake glucose, while hypogonadism, or low testosterone/estrogen, can significantly exacerbate metabolic dysfunction. This common co-occurrence creates a compounding risk for cardiovascular disease, obesity, and systemic frailty.
