Insulin Receptor Sensitivity

Meaning

Insulin Receptor Sensitivity is a measure of the degree to which a target cell, such as a muscle, fat, or liver cell, responds physiologically to a given concentration of the hormone insulin circulating in the bloodstream. High sensitivity indicates that a small amount of insulin is sufficient to elicit a robust biological response, such as glucose uptake. Conversely, reduced sensitivity, or insulin resistance, requires significantly higher insulin concentrations to achieve the same metabolic effect.
