Insomnia

Meaning

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder characterized by persistent difficulty with sleep initiation, duration, consolidation, or quality, occurring despite adequate opportunity for sleep, resulting in some form of daytime impairment. In the context of hormonal health, insomnia is often a significant symptom of endocrine shifts, particularly during perimenopause and menopause, where fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone can directly impact the central nervous system’s sleep-wake regulation. Chronic insomnia can further disrupt metabolic and hormonal rhythms, creating a negative feedback loop.
