Inositolphosphoglycans

Meaning

Inositolphosphoglycans (IPGs) are complex molecules derived from the hydrolysis of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors on cell membranes or from free inositol phospholipids. Composed of an inositol phosphate head group, glycan chain, and lipid moiety, these compounds function as crucial intracellular signaling mediators, particularly in processes regulated by insulin.
