Inositol Therapy

Meaning

Inositol therapy involves the clinical administration of inositol, a naturally occurring polyol or sugar alcohol, most commonly in the specific stereoisomers myo-inositol or D-chiro-inositol, to provide targeted support for metabolic and hormonal balance. This nutritional intervention is predominantly utilized in clinical endocrinology to significantly improve cellular insulin sensitivity and to help restore normal ovulatory function, particularly in women diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Inositol is recognized for its vital role as a secondary messenger in various cellular signaling cascades, including those initiated by the insulin receptor. The overarching goal of this therapy is to address the underlying biochemical dysfunction associated with chronic insulin resistance and resulting hyperandrogenism.
