Inositol Ratio

Meaning

The Inositol Ratio refers to the relative concentration and balance between the two primary stereoisomers of inositol, Myo-inositol (MI) and D-chiro-inositol (DCI), which are crucial second messengers in the cellular signaling of insulin. Maintaining the correct physiological ratio, which is typically around 40:1 (MI to DCI) in the plasma, is fundamental for proper glucose metabolism and optimal ovarian function. An imbalance, particularly a depletion of MI or an excess of DCI in specific tissues, is strongly implicated in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
