Injection Schedules

Meaning

Injection schedules refer to the prescribed frequency, timing, and route of administration for injectable medications, particularly in the context of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or other endocrine treatments. A carefully determined injection schedule is a fundamental component of clinical care, as it is designed to maintain therapeutic plasma concentrations of the active compound within a specific, physiological range. The schedule must be individualized based on the half-life of the specific ester used and the patient’s pharmacokinetic response to minimize supraphysiological peaks and subtherapeutic troughs. Deviations from the optimal schedule can lead to hormonal fluctuations, resulting in mood instability and variable therapeutic outcomes.
