Ingestible Capsules

Meaning

Ingestible Capsules are a ubiquitous and highly practical pharmaceutical dosage form consisting of a shell, typically made of gelatin or a plant-derived polymer, that encloses a precise, unit dose of a drug, hormone, or nutritional compound. This oral route of administration is the most common, requiring the active compound to be swallowed and subsequently dissolved within the gastrointestinal tract for systemic absorption. The capsule shell primarily functions to protect the active ingredients from degradation by stomach acid and to mask any unpleasant taste or odor.
