Informed Non-Disclosure

Meaning

Informed Non-Disclosure is the ethical and clinical process where a patient, having received a comprehensive explanation of the potential risks and benefits of knowing a specific piece of health information, autonomously chooses not to receive that information. This applies particularly to genetic predispositions, specific biomarker results that carry significant psychological burden, or incidental findings from comprehensive testing. It is a critical component of patient autonomy, affirming the right not to know.
