Inflammatory Mediators SHBG Suppression

Meaning

Inflammatory Mediators SHBG Suppression describes the specific physiological process where pro-inflammatory signaling molecules, such as certain cytokines, interfere with and reduce the liver’s production of Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG). This suppression results in a lower total SHBG concentration in the circulation, which consequently increases the proportion of free, biologically active sex hormones, particularly testosterone and estradiol. Chronic, low-grade inflammation is a significant, often overlooked, driver of this hormonal shift.
