Inflammatory Cytokine Signaling

Meaning

The biochemical communication cascade initiated and propagated by pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are small protein messengers released by immune cells to coordinate the body’s acute and chronic inflammatory response. “Signaling” refers to the binding of these cytokines to their specific cellular receptors, triggering intracellular pathways that amplify inflammation, recruit immune cells, and regulate gene expression. Chronic, dysregulated signaling is a key driver of age-related decline and numerous disease states.
