Inflammation Resolution Axis

Meaning

The complex, self-limiting biological pathway that actively coordinates the termination of the acute inflammatory response and promotes the return of tissue to a state of homeostasis. Unlike passive cessation of inflammation, this active resolution involves specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) and hormonal signals that clear cellular debris and initiate tissue repair. A failure in this axis leads to chronic, low-grade inflammation, a key driver of age-related disease.
