Inflammaging Cascade

Meaning

The inflammaging cascade is the clinical term for the chronic, low-grade, sterile, and systemic inflammation that is a fundamental driver of the aging process and age-related disease. This smoldering inflammatory state is characterized by persistently elevated levels of pro-inflammatory markers, such as C-reactive protein and various interleukins, without the presence of an acute infection. It is not a disease itself but rather a pathological state that accelerates biological decline and predisposes individuals to chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, and metabolic dysfunction. Interrupting this cascade is a core goal of longevity and wellness interventions.
