Industrial Seed Oils

Meaning

Industrial Seed Oils are highly processed, energy-dense lipid sources, such as soybean, corn, cottonseed, and canola oil, extracted from seeds using high heat, chemical solvents, and often subjected to deodorization and bleaching. These oils are characterized by a disproportionately high content of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and often contain trans fats and oxidation byproducts due to the aggressive processing methods. Their ubiquitous presence in the modern food supply contributes significantly to an unfavorable omega-6 to omega-3 ratio in human tissues, a key driver of systemic inflammation.
