Indole-3-Carbinol

Meaning

Indole-3-Carbinol, often abbreviated as I3C, is a naturally occurring phytochemical found abundantly in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and kale. It is not the active compound itself but rather a precursor that is metabolically converted in the acidic environment of the stomach to its active derivative, Diindolylmethane, or DIM. I3C and its metabolites are clinically studied for their role in supporting favorable estrogen metabolism pathways. Consumption of these vegetables is a natural strategy for promoting hormonal balance.
