Incretin

Meaning

Incretins are gastrointestinal hormones released into the bloodstream following nutrient ingestion, primarily glucose and fat. These hormones, notably Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) and Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP), stimulate pancreatic insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, minimizing hypoglycemia risk.
