Increased Bone Mineral Density

Meaning

Increased Bone Mineral Density (BMD) is a clinical metric reflecting a favorable rise in the concentration of mineral content, primarily calcium and phosphate, per unit volume of bone tissue. This augmentation is a desirable physiological outcome, signifying enhanced skeletal structural integrity and a significantly reduced risk of fracture and debilitating osteoporosis. Hormonal status, particularly the maintenance of adequate levels of sex steroids and Vitamin D, is a major determinant of BMD accretion and long-term maintenance.
