In Vitro Maturation

Meaning

In Vitro Maturation, or IVM, is an assisted reproductive technology procedure where immature oocytes are retrieved from ovarian follicles and subsequently matured in a laboratory setting before fertilization. This process allows for the development of oocytes to the metaphase II stage, which is the optimal state for successful fertilization with sperm. The objective is to achieve full cytoplasmic and nuclear maturation outside the body.
