In Vitro Maturation

Meaning

In Vitro Maturation (IVM) is an assisted reproductive technology procedure where immature oocytes are retrieved from ovarian follicles and subsequently matured outside the body in a specialized culture medium prior to fertilization. This technique is an alternative to conventional In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), which relies on extensive hormonal stimulation to mature oocytes in vivo. IVM offers a gentler approach, minimizing the pharmacological burden of high-dose gonadotropin administration.
