Immunotoxicology

Meaning

Immunotoxicology is the specialized field of toxicology that studies the adverse effects of various chemical, biological, or physical agents on the immune system, including immunosuppression, immunostimulation, and hypersensitivity reactions. In the context of hormonal health, this discipline is concerned with how endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) or certain pharmacological hormonal agents may compromise immune surveillance, alter inflammatory responses, or contribute to the development of autoimmune conditions. It provides the framework for assessing the long-term safety of environmental exposures and therapeutic compounds on the body’s defense mechanisms.
