Immunological Memory

Meaning

Immunological Memory describes the capacity of the adaptive immune system to recall prior exposure to an antigen, leading to a faster and more robust secondary response upon re-exposure. This concept is relevant in endocrinology when considering autoimmune conditions affecting glands, such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Type 1 Diabetes. Memory cells provide long-term protection or, conversely, perpetuate chronic inflammatory attacks on endocrine tissue.
