Immunogenic Potential

Meaning

Immunogenic potential describes the intrinsic capacity of a substance, such as a therapeutic hormone or peptide, to elicit an immune response within the host organism. This potential is clinically significant because an immune reaction can lead to the formation of neutralizing antibodies, which may reduce the efficacy of the treatment or, in rare cases, cause adverse hypersensitivity reactions. Assessing this potential is a critical step in the development of all biological therapeutics.
