IGFBP

Meaning

Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Proteins, or IGFBPs, represent a family of six distinct proteins, designated IGFBP-1 through IGFBP-6, that serve as primary regulators of the insulin-like growth factors (IGFs). These proteins bind to IGF-1 and IGF-2 with high affinity, thereby controlling their bioavailability, transport, and interaction with target cell receptors. Their fundamental role is to modulate the potent anabolic and metabolic actions of IGFs throughout the body.
