IGF-1R

Meaning

IGF-1R, or the Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 Receptor, is a transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor protein found ubiquitously on the surface of most human cells. This receptor serves as the primary mediator of the biological effects of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) and, to a lesser extent, IGF-2. It is a crucial component of the growth and metabolic signaling network, regulating cell survival, proliferation, and tissue growth throughout the lifespan. Dysfunction or overactivation of the IGF-1R signaling pathway is implicated in both growth disorders and the pathogenesis of several malignancies.
