IGF-1 Upregulation

Meaning

IGF-1 Upregulation is the physiological process of increasing the circulating and tissue-specific concentrations of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1, a polypeptide hormone primarily synthesized in the liver in response to growth hormone (GH) stimulation. This increase is a critical anabolic signal, mediating many of the growth-promoting effects of GH, including protein synthesis, cellular proliferation, and tissue repair. Clinically, optimizing IGF-1 levels is often a target for improving muscle mass, bone density, and overall metabolic function.
