IGF-1 Sensitivity

Meaning

IGF-1 Sensitivity is the degree of responsiveness exhibited by target cells and tissues to the signaling effects of Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), independent of the circulating concentration of the hormone itself. High sensitivity indicates that a cell’s receptor machinery efficiently receives the IGF-1 signal and effectively translates it into the appropriate intracellular action, such as promoting anabolism or cellular repair. Loss of this sensitivity, often seen with age or chronic metabolic dysfunction, leads to a state of functional IGF-1 resistance, impairing regenerative capacity and contributing to sarcopenia and bone loss.
