IGF-1 Feedback

Meaning

IGF-1 feedback describes the crucial negative feedback loop in the somatotropic axis where Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), primarily produced by the liver, exerts an inhibitory influence on the upstream secretion of Growth Hormone (GH) from the pituitary gland. This regulatory mechanism ensures that circulating levels of GH and IGF-1 are maintained within a narrow, physiological range, preventing excessive tissue growth or metabolic dysregulation. It is a cornerstone of growth and metabolic control in human physiology.
