IGF-1 Conversion

Meaning

IGF-1 conversion refers to the critical biological process in which the liver, as its primary endocrine function, synthesizes and secretes Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) in direct response to stimulation by circulating Growth Hormone (GH). This conversion step is a central component of the somatotropic axis, serving as the essential link that connects pituitary hormone release to peripheral tissue growth, repair, and metabolism. The efficiency of this hepatic conversion is a primary determinant of the circulating levels of the potent anabolic factor, IGF-1.
