IBIS-II Study

Meaning

The IBIS-II Study, formally known as the International Breast Cancer Intervention Study II, was a significant randomized clinical trial. Its primary objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of anastrozole, an aromatase inhibitor, compared to tamoxifen, a selective estrogen receptor modulator, in preventing breast cancer in postmenopausal women at elevated risk. This research demonstrated that anastrozole offered a superior reduction in breast cancer incidence, providing a crucial advancement in chemoprevention strategies.
