Iatrogenic Hyperthyroidism

Meaning

Iatrogenic Hyperthyroidism is a state of thyroid hormone excess directly caused by medical intervention, most frequently resulting from the over-administration of exogenous thyroid hormone replacement medication. This condition is characterized by biochemical markers of thyrotoxicosis, including a suppressed Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) level and elevated free thyroid hormone concentrations. Clinical vigilance and precise dose titration are essential to mitigate the adverse cardiovascular and metabolic consequences associated with this induced hypermetabolic state.
