Hypothalamic Pulse Frequency

Meaning

The precise rate and amplitude at which the hypothalamus secretes gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) into the portal circulation, which acts as the master regulator for the entire reproductive axis. This pulsatile secretion is not constant but varies physiologically based on age, sex, energy status, and feedback from peripheral hormones. The frequency of these pulses dictates the differential release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary.
