Hypothalamic Hypogonadism

Meaning

Hypothalamic Hypogonadism is a specific clinical condition characterized by insufficient production of sex hormones (testosterone or estrogen) due to a primary failure in the hypothalamus to secrete adequate Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH). This is classified as a secondary or central form of hypogonadism, distinct from primary gonadal failure. The resulting deficiency in GnRH leads to low Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) from the pituitary, ultimately causing low circulating sex steroids and associated clinical symptoms.
