Hypothalamic Disruption

Meaning

Hypothalamic Disruption refers to any structural, functional, or biochemical perturbation of the hypothalamus, the critical brain region that serves as the central integrator of the neuroendocrine system. This disruption can impair the pulsatile release of releasing and inhibiting hormones, leading to downstream dysregulation of the pituitary and peripheral endocrine glands. Clinically, this manifests as complex hormonal imbalances, affecting metabolism, reproduction, stress response, and body temperature regulation. It signifies a failure at the highest regulatory center.
