Hypoinsulinemia

Meaning

A clinical state defined by abnormally low levels of insulin circulating in the bloodstream, indicating a deficient production or secretion of the hormone by the pancreatic beta cells. This condition is most classically associated with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, where autoimmune destruction of the beta cells severely limits insulin availability. Without sufficient insulin, the body cannot effectively transport glucose from the blood into the cells for energy, leading to hyperglycemia and metabolic derangement.
